Description
A bactericidal antibiotic which is highly active against gram negative bacteria. Colistin belongs to polypeptide antibiotics (polymixins) with a good safety profile. It acts by inhibiting of cytoplasmic membrane synthesis. Colistin is poorly absorbed from G.I. tract offers a specific advantage in the treatment of G.I. tract infections.
